Your Guide to Visiting the Dutch Henry Winery

History of the Dutch Henry Winery

The Dutch Henry Winery was established in 1992, but after being open for only seven years, the vineyard received the prestigious title of Top Five Wineries to visit in Napa Valley from the Wall Street Journal. A family opened operation, this vineyard is known for creating smaller batches of handcrafted wines. The most common varietals produced by the Chafen family are Bordeaux style wines along with Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Pinot Noir, and Petite Sirah.

The Grounds

The Dutch Henry Winery includes several vineyards growing different varietals, each area organically farmed. Owner Scott Chafen also had the brilliant idea to have a wine cave built. During your visit, you can see the cave where the winemaking process happens. This unique idea has helped the family save energy by naturally cooling the wine and keeping the barrels out of the blazing California sun all year long. In addition to their many wine offerings, the Chafen family also produces its very own extra virgin olive that you can purchase during your visit.

Wine Tastings

Of course, the main reason you’ll want to check out the Dutch Henry Winery is to take the wines. The grounds are beautiful and should be exploring, but nothing is more refreshing that a crisp glass of white wine in the summer or a cozy glass of red for the chillier months. When you plan a visit to the property, you have several wine tasting options. Two choices allow you to spend time in the tasting room and sip on four or five different types of wine currently being produced. If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, you can opt for the Cave Tour tasting, which guides guests through the wine cave and provides five wines to sample.
