History of Burgess Cellars

Burgess Cellars began back in 1972. Its founder, Tom Burgess, actually founded the vineyard in Napa Valley before wine became a major booming venture in the area. Thus, Burgess Cellars could be considered one of the original vineyards in Napa Valley! The vineyard has been thriving and a staple of Napa Valley for decades. In 2004, 32 years after founding Burgess Cellars, Tom Burgess’s adult children — Steven and James — joined him in running the business, and they run it today as the President and Vineyard Manager. Burgess Cellars is a family-run business, through and through, and you can rest assured that you’re getting the chance to try quality wine crafted by passionate vintners.

What Burgess Cellars Offers You

The vineyard offers two amazing tasting experiences for your visit. The Mountainside Tasting offers a gorgeous, panoramic view of the beautiful Napa Valley. Enjoy the views as you sip on vintage wine from the 45-year Burgess Cellars Wine Program. These are $60 per person, offered daily at 10 AM and 2 PM, and requires a reservation in advance. Wine club members get a discount, along with friends. Alternatively, you could go to the Cellar Tasting Room for an authentic, historical experience. Taste classic wine in the same active barrel room where Tom Burgess hosted the wineries first tastings. These tastings are at 10 AM, 11:30 AM, 1 PM and 2:30 PM, and run $30 per person. Wine club members receive two complimentary tastes. You won’t believe how wonderful and elegant a wine-tasting experience can be!

What’s more, the views from Burgess Cellars are magnificent. It’s remote enough to be unique, but still very reachable. It’s in a fantastic spot, 3 miles “off the floor” of the Napa Valley, which makes you feel like you’re a world away.
