History in the Making

The story of this winery begins in South Carolina. Jamey Whetstone grew up in The Palmetto State, gained experience in the restaurant industry, and moved to Napa Valley in 1996 to manage Mustards Grill. He connected with the wine country quickly and turned his focus to winemaking. In 2002, he founded Whetstone Wine Cellars and built a brand and collection of wines that pay respects to Whetstone’s “Southern roots and Napa Valley’s rich heritage.”

Jamey’s wife Michelle also joined the company to focus on the guest experienceShe oversaw the renovation of the tasting room and is responsible for the details that make repeat guests out of first-time visitors again and again.

What You’ve Been Waiting for: The Wine

Whetstone Wine Cellars has a hand-crafted selection of wines for you to enjoy. We can only hit the tip of the iceberg here, but it’s a sampling to get you started!

Current selections include Pinot Noir and Syrah, and a Viognier, as well as a virtual tasting pack that includes four different wines accompanied by Jamey’s tasting notes and a few recipes from local chefs.

Just to get you dreaming about these offerings, the notes on the 2018 Pinot Noir called Walala are as follows: “Big perfumey nose of ripe Bing cherry and rose petal, and hints of vanilla.” This medium-bodied wine includes a balance of ripe dark cherry and rhubarb, but you’ll also be able to taste the “bright plum and raspberry, and baker’s chocolate.”

If you fall in love with a particular wine, you may want to purchase a magnum! The Walala we just described is available in this size, but so are 16 other varietals.

If your passion is aged wine, you’ll want to select from Whetstone Cellars library of 10 wines that have been aged to perfection.
