Even though Napa Valley is one of the smallest wine regions, it is easily one of the most diverse. Winemakers and vine-keepers know that diverse soil is essential for growing different types of grapes, especially in the Carneros region. Fortunately for the family at Truchard Vineyards, their vineyard is located in one of the most diverse locations in the Carneros region.
Below we suggest three reasons Truchard Vineyards is the most unique vineyard in Napa Valley. For a complete list of wineries and vineyards in Napa Valley, download our Vacation Guide and plan your next trip to Wine Country.
Truchard Vineyards produces a variety of highly-rated wines from one vineyard, thanks to the unique climate and soil types. The location of Truchard Vineyards is the most northeastern vineyard in the Carneros region, positioned at the foothills of the Mayacama mountain range. Because of this location, the vineyard has a particular climate that increases the diversity and bounty of the grapes. The vineyard is situated across a diverse land that includes rolling hills, ravines, and numerous valleys. The variety in soil type also enables the vineyard to harvest a diverse bounty; clay, shale, lava rock, volcanic ash, and sandstone can be found in the vineyard. The location, land type, and soil all contribute to the diversity of the grapes that are harvested at Truchard Vineyards.
Because of the premium location and various micro-climates of Truchard Vineyards, many different varieties of grapes can be grown and harvested – a statement that not many Napa Valley vineyards can make! The vineyard now has 12 different varieties of grapes that grow in their appropriate microclimates of the land, thereby enabling the winemaker to create an increased variety of wines. The typical wine made in Napa Valley is Cabernet Sauvignon, but Truchard Vineyards can boast of many wines, including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Zinfandel, Roussanne, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and more!
